Full Description
Boundary marked on OS 6" 1st ed map, and named 'Old Chalk Pit' on 3rd ed (1908). (1)
An archaeological evaluation carried out at the site in 2019 identified evidence for the chalk quarry in the form of backfill material and a NE-SW aligned track way leading to the quarry. The backfill material comprised compacted hardcore containing large broken concrete blocks and a layer of clay containing occasional sub-angular flints. The chalk quarry is described in the report as measuring 60m x 60m+ in area. (2)
