Monument record TQ 96 SE 68 - Worked flint, Ferry House, Teynham
Summary
Thirty-two pieces of worked flint were found in Teynham Street, of which eight were flakes and two were chunks of stone. One of the flakes could have been removed during the final, sharpening stage of manufacturing a tranchet axe (a chisel-like implement), during the Mesolithic period. It has been suggested that the site was in use during the transition from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic period and that the area could have been used as an industrial flint-working site at this time.
