Full Description

Documentary evidence suggests the existence of an ancient road, poss. Roman, though still visible as late as 1885. It has been suggested that a Kasern or Caserin Street was known in the area, and that the Roman road between Canterbury and London was called Caesars Street. It has also been suggested that the name of the village Sharsted, the Anglo Saxon word for shard or crock, was one which often pointed to a Roman origin or indicated surface debris. (1)
