Frindsbury Limeworks opened by Edward Coles before 1842, expanded from 1864 by Coles and Young when seven lime kilns operating (plus a disused one serving as a shop). Quarry expanded from 1879. Became cement works c1897 when operated as Frinsbury Chalk Works and taken over by APCM in 1900.(1) Site now cleared and redeveloped. Group of four kilns spaced out in a line on 1868 OS map.
The site was served by two jetties linked to the kilns and quarry by a tramway system. The bank of four kilns lay parallel to Phoenix Wharf, while the bank of three kilns lay towards the centre of the quarry. The site was occupied by the Phoenix Cement Works.(2)
