Full Description
The Margate Brewery was founded in 1673, when Cobbs was home brewing. The brewery was not erected until 1760 and was rebuilt in 1808. Cobb & Co are recorded as owning it from around 1899. Acquired by Whitbread in 1968, who then closed it. It was demolished in 1971.(1) In the South eastern complex of the brewery are Malt Kilns, TR 3552 7118. They are in a L-shaped building, prob. a rectanguler building with an extension on the south east side.(2)
There is an approx 8m diameter, round resevoir in the yard to the north of the office. This is lost by the 4th (1929-1952) ed OS map.
