Full Description
A pair of limekilns in a chalk pit were cut into the downs above Burnt House Farm. They were present in 1868 and disused by 1908. Subsequent operations may have destoryed the kilns. Identified from OS 1st (1868) and 3rd (1908) maps. (1, 2)
The lime kilns were surveyed by Canterbury Archaeological Trust during a Heritage Survey of the Charing Beech Hangers woodland in 2004. The survey identified a series of chalk quarries, platforms, and an inclined trackway in the vicinity of the kilns. (3)
