Malt House on Old Dover Road, Canterbury. In use from at least 1847 until 1910's, probably even later. Run by D.H. Bushell in 1847 and probably later. The maltings was a long rectangular building, which may have been demolished by the 1930's.(1,2)

During a watching brief at 12 Vernon Place, a layer of broken glass wine bottles dating to the mid 18th century was excavated. This has been interpreted as a rubbish disposal deposit associated with the Malt house. Brick wall foundations and walling dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries with evidence for window and door openings were also identified at the site. These features have been interpreted as evidence for the original Malt house building and later alterations to the structure.
Prior to the construction of the Malt house, the area underwent comprehensive ground reduction, potentially thought to be the result of quarrying. (3)
