Full Description

A human skull, apparently mineralised to the same degree as other fossil bones in the same deposit, was found at Baker's Hole, Northfleet, above the level of the main Mousterian workshop, but below the uppermost level at which Mousterian implements are found (1, 2, 3). The exact level is unknown. It is of modern type so was supposed to be Upper Palaeolithic up until the later 20th century when Oakley carried out C14 dating - he found it to be a post-Pleistocene intrusion (4).
