Full Description
[TQ 4415 4623] The manor house of Edenbridge, "stood a few yards west of the present High Street, but a part of the moat is all that can now be seen." The manor was later known as Stangrave. (1) The O.S. 6" 1870 shows the waterfilled western and southern arms of the moat around a building pre-dating the present nineteenth century 'Manor House'. Of this building not a trace remains; the line of the moat can however be seen in the lawns as a slight depression. A stretch of water immediately north of the present house, is probably a part of the northern arm. The present owners could offer no information about the site. Published survey (25" undated) correct. (2) The Manor House, Edenbridge is not listed in the County checklist of moated sites in Kent - December 1979. (3)
