Full Description
Charles Formby was making lime at Halling prior to 1862.In 1912 Formby's Clinkham works, probably the same as the lime burning site, was taken over by Albert Batchelor & Co.(1) Acquired by Rugby Portland cement in 1936 and built a new works beside the existing, outdated, kilns.(2) The works was situated on the east side of the main line railway with a branch from it and tramways to Grey Pit across the track (at TQ 6991 6474). An earlier pit stood to the immediate north of the works. The works was small, with only two main buildings in the 1930s.(3)
