Full Description
The Beehive Cement Works was established south of the Crown works in c1880 by George Burge Jnr.(1) By 1897 the Beehive work seem to have been operating with the Beaver cement Co. works, adjacent to the south, possibly as a result of the latter company's acquistion by the Gillingham Portland Cement Co. In 1907 the works closed although the buildings seem to have remained in use as part of the combined Crown & Quarry works under APCM though the 1930s.(2) The whole site closed in 1963 and has now been cleared.
