[TQ 62037243] Roman Cemy. [NAT] (Site of) [NAT] (1) Several burials have been recorded [at Springhead] and, since the beginning of the last century burials both by incineration and inhumation have been found in some numbers on both sides of the main road. The most recent discoveries are a woman's skeleton found with 3rd-4th c. pottery in Winfield Bank [B] and a male skeleton found with an iron key, south of the road, opposite Pepperhill Lane in 1921-2 [C]. (2) Roman pottery, skeleton and vessel of Upchurch Ware were discovered during excavations 1922/3. Sited from trace supplied by Ministry of Transport: A. TQ 61897246.
