Findspot record TR 06 SW 228 - Finds from Roman ploughsoils at Abbey Fields, Faversham

Summary

In the 1990s an archaeological watching brief looking at the route of a new water pipeline in Abbey Fields identified an ancient river from the mid-to-late Romano-British period. It had carried deposits of Romano-British pot, building material and plough-soils. Faversham Roman villa could have been situated on the west bank of this river rather than on the east bank of Faversham Creek, as had been previously believed.
