Full Description
Built in 1905 this was originally a position finding station in the First World War. By the Second World War it was the Battery Observation Post with a depression Range Finder. It is located in the Cliff Edge below the battery and was reached from the Battery via a tunnel, which has now been sealed at the south-east end. The tunnel is used as an emergency exit from the Coastguard Station. The post is built of brick and reinforced concrete and has now beren sealed to prevent public access. The public footpath runs between the observation post and the perimeter boundary to the battery. Where it crosses, a ventilation pipe to the tunnel has been exposed. August 16th 1944, a V1 landed at the foot of the cliff below the BOP blowing in the door but not causing any other structural damage.(1)
