Full Description
A brick building with concrete foundations (6mx12m) walls 30cm wide. Access is via two doorways at either end (1.0m wide). Walls still standing to 0.75m height. The structure is orientated north east to south west and lies on a terrace which appears to form part of the railway system. The walls are of yellow brick of English bond with a course of headers to three courses of stretchers. Internally there are 7 support pillars against the walls. South east of this building are two flights of steps. One is a flight of flag stone steps. The other is two rises of 7 steps each made of concrete with metal edges and concrete banisters. Several domestic apple trees in locality. To the north west on an upper level is a rectangular depression of similar dimensions to the building. It is approximately 1.5m deep and entered by a flight of 8 concrete steps at the south west end. The north east end is overgrown with shrubs. War Dept maps record a 100ft Barr and proposed 30ft Barr and Stroud Ranger Finder for Langdon Battery. The depression behinf may be an air-raid shelter which has had its roof removed. A gun turret of WWI is reputed to have been located close to the south-western end of the building structure An earial photograph of 1942 shows two buildings on this site and remains of the gun position.(1)
