Summary

WWI Gun turret located to the north of Cliff Road, to the east of the Port of Dover. This structure was comprised of a broadly square-shaped structure flanked by earthen banking. It is partially visible on aerial photography dated to 1942, 1945 and 1962. It is visible as an earthwork as of 2001.

Full Description

The site of one of the gun turrets used for coastal defence during the 1914 war and which quite possibly was served in its construction by the same line. A circular feature enclosed within a perimeter fence is recorded on the OS 25" Provisional Edition 1932-36. No evidence of the gun turret was found during the survey.(1)

It is partially visible on aerial photography dated to 1942 [2], 1945 [3] and 1962 [4]. It covers an area approximately 17 m x 13 m and is visible as an earthwork, as of 2001 [5].
