Summary

A building built as an isolation hospital in 1897 using the pavilion principle. Six main blocks of red brick and tiles. New nurses accomodation was added in 1904. It was used later as a cottage hospital and then as a day centre for disabled people. It is now closed.

Full Description

A small isolation hospital built to serve the city of Canterbury in 1896-7. It was designed by the city surveyor, A. H. Campbell. The hospital was transferred to the NHS in 1948 and was latterly used as a cottage hospital. It closed in 1989 but was being partially used as a day-centre for the mentally handicapped in 1991(1).
Was used as a Casualty Clearing Station during WW1. The unit opened early in 1915 but its location proved unsuitable and it closed within a short time.
