Full Description
During an archaeological evaluation undertaken at land off Bartholomews Street/Granville Street, Dover, two layers of silty clay were revealed below the modern layers, these produced a quantity of burnt and struck flints alongside a few sherds of Prehistoric pottery and some marine shell. The pottery is broadly datable to between 1000BC and 100 BC. The marine shell represents food debris, this material is clearly suggestive of Prehistoric occupation within the immediatel vicinity.
