Summary

During a watching brief carried out in 1992 prior to works on the A2070, the line of the Roman road was inspected. Possible remains of this were noted in a field to the west, although the road construction appeared to have no significant impact on this.

Full Description

The watching brief carried out during works on the construction of the A2070 found that no significant archaeological remains would be affected by the construction of the new road, except for the Royal Military Canal (which is the subject of a separate, prior, archaeological investigation). Although the Roman road is not affected by the new road (due to an embankment at the crossing point) remains of the road may well be visible in the field immediately to to the west of the road(1).
