Full Description

Along the course of the c.45cm deep trench and a c.60cm deep manhole adjacent to the church, nothing of archaeological interest was found. Within the cess tank pit a total of 9 articulated skeletons were exposed along with large amounts of disarticulated bone. The latter was observed from about 30cm. below the modern ground surface down to a depth of c.1.25m. From the few sherds of pottery adn the remains of metalwork from decomposed wooden coffins there is no reason to suppose that the burials are anything other thatn 18th or 19th century in date(1).
