Full Description
Workmen digging service trenches on the western side of the barracks complex discovered a quantity of human bones. The cemetery of the Royal Naval Hospital once occupied this area and seems to have been in use between 1795 and 1860. Some of the bones were recovered form an area shown on nineteenth century maps as a burial ground while others were recovered from behind building 97, in a region which has previously been considered to lie outside the cemetery area. This implies that the burial ground covers a more extensive area than previously suspected(1).
