Full Description
The church is situated off Church Street in the village of Loose, to the south of Maidstone. It's origins are in the 13th century, though it has been periodically restored and enlarged. Three skeletons to the south-west of the church were found in partially decayed wooden coffins, with handles, nails and studs. A grave footstone found near these was initialled and dated 'M.C 1819' though it is impossible to say if this is related to one of the graves or not. Occasional iron nails were the only surviving evidence of burial in coffins for the remainder of the internments. As is typical with Christian burials, all the skeletons were aligned east-west, and without any accompanying artefacts. Remains from at least 27 individuals were found(1).
