Full Description
Remains of two post-medieval walls were found during a watching brief at 9-11 Tufton Street. The walls were dated by the brickwork to late 17th century at the earliest though were thought more likely to be of 18th century date. The disparity between ground levels in the vicinity and the absence of any garden soils or earth floor deposits associated with the walls suggests that this area has been truncated to a lower level, probably just prior to the construction of the two observed walls(1).
