Full Description

An evaluation was carried out in July 2000 to the rear of No.'s 7, 8 and 9 High Street, Eastry. Seven features were found, all believed to date from the medieval and post-medieval periods (1).

Due to significant archaeological remains found earlier a follow up excavation took place in August. Three lengths of shallow gully appeared to delimit part of a rectangular enclosure with an entrance at the north-west corner and perhaps another narrower one on the north side. Collectively they produced pottery ranging fron c.1050 - 1225AD and were filled in durin the medieval period. Evidence of earlier and later activity has alsobeen found in the area.
