Full Description
The evaluation at Potter Street was carried out in the spring of 2000 by Dover Archaeological Group. The evaluation suggests that the area under examination does not represent a true medieval burgage plot but is rather a product of the post medieval period. Medieval walls run down the middle of the plot, suggesting that the present area was created by splitting off parts of the two adjacent plots and combining them to form the present area. There were several structures on the site from both periods including tobbaco pipe kilns and dwellings which show how the land use changed through time. No Anglo-Saxon or Norman occupation has been located, and it seems possible that this area was still under-water (at least at high tide) during these periods.(1)
