Full Description

Three probable medieval cremation burials, only one of which can be rightfully described as a cremation, close to Coldred. The most complete of the three was located in a sub-circular cut with an irregualr profile and a diameter of 34cm.. It had been clearly excavated roughly with the intention of accommodating the inverted cremation vessel. The fill of this vessel was charcole rich which produced 49 small fragemnts of bone and what may have been two corroded nails. The features have been dated by pottery to the 13th to Mid 14th C. The unusual nature of the burials, ie. cremations, has put forwards as been suggestive of some violent end. (1)
