Full Description

Surface collection survey along line of pipeline between Farningham and High Halden. The work was hampered by bad weather but two areas of high concentrations of burnt flint and slag were found. One site was near Copt Hall Farm Marden. Although large quantities of burnt flint and slag were found, no pottery was discovered and the site is of unknown date. It is suggested that the name Copt Hall may be a corruption of Corpse and therefore a fuel source for iron working. Another site was also located nr Staplehurst.(1)
