Kitchener barrack block (numbered Unit 7 within the Old Park barracks site) was an infantry barrack block built in the 1930s. The building is an 'H-plan' block built in brick in an austere Neo-Georgian style. The plan centred on a large ground floor dining room with dormitories over. The centre block and each of the four end wings had an ablution block projecting to the rear. In addition there was a single story block at the back of the central block which has been interpreted as a kitchen block. On each floor of the central block there were seven dormitories divided into higher and lower status. The higher status dormitories had fireplaces and improved decoration. There were also drying rooms and cleaning rooms.

The roof of the block had flat and pitched components.

The form of the barrack block was virtually identical to that of nearby Pasley block (TR 34 SW 627). Kitchener block had a slightly extended dining room and other cosmetic and minor alterations.

The barracks were decommissioned in 1992 and demolished in 1999 (1)
