Full Description

An Acheulian handaxe was found at the rear of 43 Rochester Road in Cuxton in 1989 while constructing a patio. The find was identified by Rochester Museum and returned to the householder, F Foreman. The handaxe was made from a mid-grey nodular flint and was in very good condition with virtually no patina. It was of sub-cordate form with a rounded tip. The context was recorded as chalky rather than gravelly, and the elevation of the deposit estimated as c. 19m OD. A second handaxe, smaller and more-abraded, was also found at the bottom of the rear garden, where spoil from the patio construction had been dumped (1, 2)
