Monument record TR 23 NW 233 - Possible Remains of The King's Bridge, Folkestone
Summary
A watchng brief in 2000 revealed evidence of a substantial stone wall set on an east-west axis. Its location close to the Pent Stream suggest that it could be part of the King's Bridge built in c.1750. The bridge, probably built by about 1750 connected the harbour at Gulstone Street (later South Street) to the Stade which was the fishing quarter. It would possibly have been covered over during the alterations made to the area in the mid 19th century.
