Full Description

Site of ROC underground post for monitoring nuclear explosions and fallout. Built in probably 1961 and abandoned in 1968 due to defence cut backs.Demolished.(1)

A Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site is located in the middle of an arable field on top of a hill to the west of Spelmonden Road. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey (1995-2002) the site was found to have been destroyed. The site was opened during May 1960 and closed during October 1968. (1-2)
