Summary

A Royal Observer Corps underground monitoring post is known to have been located in fields to the south of Wye village. This monument was built in 1959 to monitor nuclear explosions and fallout. It was abandoned in 1991 and since then it has been destroyed.

Full Description

Site of ROC underground post for monitoring nuclear explosions and fallout. Built in 1959 and abandoned in 1991. It has since been destroyed.(1)

The site of a Royal Observer Corps monitoring post. The site was located in the middle of an arable field east of Oxenturn Road. The site was built as part of an extensive network of posts designed to confirm and report hostile aircraft and nuclear attacks on the United Kingdom. At the time of the Defence of Britain survey (1995-2002) the site was found to have been destroyed. The site was opened during January 1959 and closed in September 1991. (1-2)
