Summary

Type 24 Pillbox built in 1940 on top of a Bronze Age Barrow (TR 23 NW 1). The pillbox is in good condition although the door and fireslits have been filled in with concrete. Both the pillbox and the barrow are scheduled.

Full Description

Variant on a type 24 pillbox, having eight sides. A pit in front of the front embrasure is connected to the inside by a sloping shaft. There is a rear entrance arch with steps at both sides. Embrasures are on the front five sides.

Cherry Gardens Hill Tumulus, on the property of the Folkestone Waterworks Company, had a pillbox erected on it in 1940. Two burials, and a number of objects were discovered, which were not examined scientifically.Pillbox on bowl barrow, with which it is scheduled. On waterworks land, Cherry Garden Hill [Bronze Age barrow], N of Folkestone. (1) Both the pillbox and the barrow are scheduled.(1, 2).
