Full Description
Watching brief undertaken in 1993 at 66 London Road, Canterbury uncovered a complete Roman vessel.
The pot was fragmented during machining but has since been reconstructed. The vessel is a Roman colour coated beaker, manufactured in the Nene Valley near Petersborough between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. It is an example of a circular slit folded, funnel necked vessel with a bead rim. The fact that the vessel was complete until damaged by machine, may indicate that it originally belonged to a burial group, recorded at Cranmer House (TR 15 NW 201), and the area at 66 London Road could form part of an open space within the Roman-Saxon cemetery.
