Full Description

During the 1978 - 79 excavation of a small Romano-British site 181 prehistoric struck flints were recovered either from Roman-British layers or sealing layers. The flints included a number of worked pieces, including part of a polished axe, a hammer-stone, scrapers, and a "fish-descaler" and what was described as a limited tool-kit.. No cores were found.

These finds are intereseting as they could suggest that the site area was habitable much earlier than previously thought. Also the poor quality of the finds general suggest a later industry, suggested as around 900-800 BC, but could possibly be evidence of flint use beyond this date into the Romano-British period?(1)
