Findspot record TR 15 SW 58 - Iron Age Linchpin

Summary

Well-preserved decorated iron linchpin, 110mm long, with copper-alloy cast terminals.. The top of the pin is decorated by two raised "bird head" motifs. The pin is of La Tene art style dated to between the third and first centuries BC and three simialr examples are known in Kent. The pin would have come from a prestigious vehicle. The survival of both ends does not suggest that the pin was lost accidentally, nor is there evidence of a contempory settlement at this spot
