Full Description
Ragstone quarry, date unknown, surveyed as part of the MPP Quarry programme. Graded, it is difficult to see, as of national importance (lesser importance).(1)
Ragstone quarries worked from the Mediaeval period until the 20th century. The quarries are now occupied by houses, and most of the working caes are now in private gardens. A deep oval pit at the West end has a malthouse in the base. A building of chalk clunch construction may have been an office or used for stone dressing. There were formerly limekilns in the quarry.
