Full Description
Site of Calverley Quarries recorded as part of the MPP Stage 3. Considered to be of low importance.(1)
Variegated brown sandstone, part of the Wealden Stone group of Cretaceous sandstones, was formerly quarried at these famous quarries at Tunbridge Wells, the stone being used in the town, as well as at Tonbridge Castle and Brasted Place. The area has since been disused, the quarries being disused by 1898. (2)
