Summary

Evaluation trenches in 1993 revealed a number of Iron Age, Roman and medieval features (TR 15 NW 514, 621 & 622). Across the site several medieval latrine and rubbish pits were found dating, from pottery found, around 1300 - 1350 AD and may be associated with occupation along North Lane. A number of these pits contatined animal horn cores. These maybe used for lanterns and windows when softened and made into translucent sheets. They also could indicate the waste product of a medieval tanning industry nearby. (1-3)
