Monument record TR 15 NW 624 - Roman Quarry Pits, North Lane Carpark
Summary
The earliest Roman activity in the area found so far consists of clay and gravel, for the construction of roads and courtyards, quarrying dating from around the late 1st to mid 2nd century AD. These quarries were extensive and appeared to cover most of the excavation site. The pits were later backfilled with waste material from quarrying activity further afield. This quarrying removed any traces of earlier occupation.
