During excavation work on the CB/R 5 site two mid-late Saxon structures were uncovered. The earliest, a building of posthole construction possibly set on the ground surface, was mostly outside of the excavtion site. The second, dating to around the 9th-10th century, was a cellared building of rectangular plan, about 5m x 3m between the walls of the former Roman portico of the temple precinct (TR 15 NW 110). It was surrounded by large load bearing posts supporting the main frame. In between were smaller vertical stakeholes perhaps for wattling.
