Monument record TR 15 NW 641 - Neolithic/Early Bronze Age occupation site, Chartham Heath

Summary

During evaluation work for proposed development uncovered an apparently extensive occupation deposit sealing Late Pleistocene sediments made up of burnt flint, charcoal flecks and a single burnt purposively struck flinkt flake. Initial suggested date was Palaeolithic-Mesolithic, but radiocardon dating of charcoal suggests a date of between 2470 - 2210 BC. Tests on wood and peat produced dates of 1435 - 1295 BC and 10130 - 10270 BC respectively.
