Monument record TQ 76 SW 94 - The site of an Anti-Aircraft Battery near Burham Court

Summary

Near Burham Court there is the site of a WW2 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery. It would have had 4 x 4.5" guns in sunken concrete pits in a semi-circular pattern linked to a central command/potting room and a nearby magazine. To the east were a range of buildings 572108 161721 for accommodation and guardroom etc. The gun pits were intact until the 1970's, although the buildings were demolished between 1946 - 1961. All that remains now is a soil mark for the battery and one ruined building.
