Full Description
Connected with the medieval building found during the evaluation (TR 15 NW 615) a rectangular pit possibly lined with wattle. A number of pottery sherds and a virtually complete cooking pot were found along with a medieval textile fragment dating to the late 11th to early twelfth century identified as yarn spun in the "Z" direction, a type common for linens from the British Isles. Coprolites examined seem to have contained plum and raspberry seeds. The pits location at what may be the rear of the property boundary suggests that it was not dug specifically for private use.(1-2)
