Monument record TR 35 SW 207 - Enclosure North of Tilmanstone, A256
Summary
To the east of a group of hut circles (TR 34 SW 78) is a curved ditch, 60m across, which may form the western side of a large curvillinear enclosure. Three gaps are visible in this ditch, at least one of which may be the entrance. Although this feature is undated, its proximity to the other features in the surveyed area may indicate a prehistoric date.
During evaluation work a slightly curving section of ditch was found. The sides were steeply sloping and the base slightly rounded. The fill contained the occasional struck flint and a single prehistoric flint-tempered pot-sherd. Nearby in te trench was found the probable butt-end of a chipped axe.
