Findspot record TR 15 NE 437 - Mound of Building Debris, The Precinct, Canterbury

Summary

A low but extensive mound of glass slag and ash, capped with charcoal which may have resulted form the melting down of leaded glass to recover the metal. Associated finds suggest a mid 16th century date and may have derived from the spate of iconclasm around 1540. An associated dump of loam contained three fragments of stone veneer (red and green porphyry and another of black silt-stone). Possible that they came from furnishings or the walls of Becket's Shrine?
