Full Description
A number of roof tiles, box flue tiles, fragments of painted plaster and 3rd-4th century coins found in a field north of Trottiscliffe. (1)
"Fieldwalking revealed a concentration of Roman roofing tile and pottery, together with sandstone rubble, foreign to the immediate site. Some of the rubble showed traces of adhering yellow gritty mortar. The presence of a buried Roman masonry structure, perhaps a villa, is indicated." (2)
A faint cropmark possibly relating to buildings is visible in Google Earth images from 2007 and aerial photos of 2008. It consists of two squares linked by a rectangle, the whole arrangement being c.28m long and no more than c.14m wide.
