Summary

Former Congregational chapel in the High street built in 1795 and replaced in 1833. This was destroyed by fire in 1854 and the present building erected in 1855. It has a rendered front, three-bay centre with corinthian pilasters supporting an entablature arched over the centre bay, and lower wings of two bays with Ionic pilasters. It was converted to a theatre (Whitstable Playhouse) in 1982.

Full Description

IN THE CLASSIC STYLE OF YELLOW BRICK AND RENDERED MAIN ELEVATION HAVING FOUR CORINTHIAN PILASTERS AND SEMI-CIRCULAR ARCHES IN CENTRAL PEDIMENT. HEAVY CORNICE AND PARAPET. 3 SEMI-CIRCULAR HEADED METAL WINDOWS. SEMI-CIRCULAR ENTRANCE NOW BLOCKED UP. SINGLE STOREY SIDE WINGS WITH THREE IONIC PILASTERS. CORNICE WITH MODILLION AND EACH WITH PAIR OF SLIDING SASH WINDOWS. PANELLED DOORS AT SIDE.
