Summary

Fragments of Roman pottery, roofing tile, oyster shell, nails and bits of iron were found in 1957 during construction of the Maidstone bypass. Listed as the possible site of a Roman villa.

Full Description

Some sherds of non-descript RB pottery, with no rims for dating purposes, together with fragments of roofing tile, oyster shell, nails and bits of iron were found at Whitsun, 1957, by David Canning of 97 Ashford Road, Bearsted, Maidstone. He indicated the approximate findspot at TQ 7556 5864 stating that he found the material scattered upon the ground surface, having been turned up by bulldozers during the construction of the Maidstone by-pass. Some of the finds are still in the finder's possession, the remainder is in store at Maidstone Museum. (1-3) KE 13 Listed as the possible site of a Roman villa. (4)
