Full Description
[TQ 794557]. R.B. pottery from five vessels (1st and 2nd c. A.D.) was found during the quarrying of Fullers' Earth at Roseacre Lane, Bearsted. The quarryman concerned did not notice any traces of occupation or burials. (1) The above siting falls within an area of the workings which has now reverted back to agricultural land, and can only be approximate. The finds were made in the winter of 1960-1 by a Mr. Cox who has now left the quarry and could not be contacted. In store in Maidstone Museum from this site is some RB pottery including Upchurch ware and potsherds, all 1st - 2nd c. AD (No accession numbers). Mr. Cox retained an E. 2nd c. AD poppyhead beaker.
